ALCHEMY ARTIST RESIDENCY, founded in 2015, is an artist-led residency dedicated to site-inspired art making and community engagement.

Alchemy brings together artists and makers to connect, collaborate, and reflect in two distinctive Canadian settings: Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts on the Toronto Islands and rural Prince Edward County, Ontario. At Alchemy, artists deepen their practices, exchange ideas, and engage with the people, communities, and landscapes that host us.

All of our Residency opportunities are artist-led and grounded in extended studio time, private reflection, shared meals, and collective living. Visiting artists live, work, and collaborate in settings where cooking, eating, conversation, and studio practice shape daily life. Alchemy welcomes artists who value working within a temporary community and are curious about process and materiality in both artistic and culinary practices.

ALCHEMY is an artist-led residency for site-inspired art making  and community engagement.

Alchemy brings together artists and makers  to connect, collaborate, and reflect in two unique Canadian settings: the Toronto Islands and rural Prince Edward County, Ontario. Guided by four pillars—food, art, garden, and table—we make, document and share art, meals, and conversation. At Alchemy, artists deepen their practices, exchange ideas, and engage with the people, communities and landscapes that host us.

al·che·my
/ˈalkəmē/

The medieval forerunner of chemistry, based on the supposed transformation of matter. It was concerned particularly with attempts to convert base metals into gold or to find a universal elixir.

A seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.

By their very nature art practices and the practice of culinary arts both involve thinking and creating with the hands and heart and share a seemingly magical process of transformation and creation, or a combination of the two. Both conjure up memories and associations and both have the magical power to add to our understanding of place, community, culture, and life.
